Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is neurofeedback?

A: Neurofeedback is a safe, non-invasive brain training technique that measures your brain’s electrical activity (EEG) and provides gentle auditory and visual feedback to encourage healthier, more balanced brainwave patterns. It supports the brain’s own ability to self-regulate and improve function over time.

Q: Who at FCNF provides neurofeedback?

A: All of our clinicians are able to provide neurofeedback!

Q: Is neurofeedback safe?

A: Yes — neurofeedback is gentle and non-invasive. It involves recording brain activity and delivering feedback, but it does not involve electrical stimulation into the brain. It simply provides information that helps the brain learn.

Q: Who can benefit from neurofeedback?

A: The short answer is anyone and everyone! At our clinic we typically recommend ages 6+ as you have to be able to sit for the duration of the session. Many people seek neurofeedback for help with anxiety, depression, trauma responses, low confidence, anger, stress, or general performance enhancement.

Q: Do I need a referral?

A: No referral is required! Many clients have found us through referrals, however, you don't need one to start today.

Q: Is neurofeedback covered through benefits?

A: On its own, neurofeedback is not usually covered by extended health benefits. Some clients are able to receive coverage when neurofeedback is paired with a covered service, such as social work counselling, depending on their individual benefits plan.

Q: What type of neurofeedback do you use at your clinic?

A: We proudly use NeurOptimal Neurofeedback at Forest City Neurofeedback. Please note this type of neurofeedback does not offer brain mapping, as a result we do not offer this service at our clinics.

Q: How do I monitor progress?

A: During your first visit, the clinician working with you will collaborate with you to identify client-centred, specific goals you’d like to focus on. These goals are revisited throughout your sessions to ensure your care remains aligned with your needs. Clinicians may also use a combination of standardized and non-standardized assessments to help monitor progress over time.

Q: How many sessions do you recommend?

A: There is no set number of sessions, as everyone’s needs are different. Many clients see optimal results after 10–12 sessions, but your provider will work with you to determine what’s most appropriate for you.
